For Kids 3
Now that pretty much all the basic testing is done, the treatment part of your doctor visit begins. Since there are so many reasons you might be visiting, we ar going to just show you some of the tools the doctor might use to make you feel better.
In the first row, you will see a Jar of Cotton Balls, Three Cotton balls
that escaped the jar and a roll of Gauze. The Cotton Balls can be used
to plug your ears to keep drops in, wipe dirt from around a wound or
to pad over where they might have taken blood. The gauze is used to wrap
a larger Boo Boo where a small bandage just isn't big enough.

In this next row, you see the scalpel. It is a very sharp
knife. It is used to cut things. It can also be used to remove stitches
or to cut bandages off.

Do you have scissors at home. So does the doctor. The pair on the left
are very strong scissors with plastic safety handles. The pair on the
right are called Bandage Scissors and can be Sterilized and are most
commonly used to cut tape and gauze.

On the next row you will find a Swab. he can do everything
from cleaning gunk out of a wound to placing ointment on the wound. At
home you probably use his cousin the Q-Tip.

The next three items are called non-invasive Syringes. They
are used to clean things.
Noses, ears, eyes and Boo Boo's
The next item is an invasive syringe or needle. It is used
for giving shots. Luckily, today's needles are usually very thin and
very sharp. So they don't hurt near as much as they used to. Some shots
you get in the arm, others in your butt.
It's usually over pretty quick and it helps if you think about something
nice like Eating an Ice Cream Cone. The nurse will usually be the one giving
you the shot and all of our nurses try to be as gentle as they
can.

The last three items you see here are all different types
of Tweezers used for different things. The pair on the left are usually
used for doing things like pulling out splinters. The pair in the middle
can be used to hold gauze even to hold a cut shut. The two handles clamp
at different spots depending on what they are being used for. The last
pair are used in tight places to remove things. These come in handy of
you have something in your nose. See how they bend.
I hope these pages have made a visit to Dr. Miller just a bit less scary.
Remember, Dr. Miller is there to help you and make you feel better!
